Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about working with Matt Schober and Schober Consulting.

Rates & Pricing

  • What rate do you charge?

My rate is $250 per hour depending on the client. If you are a Fortune 1000 company I add a 20% premium.

  • What is the lowest rate you will accept?

    $250 an hour — that's the lowest.

  • Do you offer fixed-price engagements?

I primarily work on a time-and-materials basis. For well-scoped projects with clear deliverables, I can discuss fixed-price arrangements during the discovery call.

  • Is there a minimum engagement length?

There is no strict minimum, but most engagements are at least one month. Cloud migrations and transformation projects typically run 3–12 months depending on scope.

Employment & Availability

  • Do you work on a full-time employment basis?

I only work on a contract basis.

  • Will you work for my company full time?

No. In 2026 I signed a commitment to never work for anyone else again as a full-time employee.

  • Can I convince you to change your mind?

    No.

  • How many hours per week are you available?

I typically dedicate 40 hours per week to active engagements. If I'm supporting multiple clients, I communicate availability transparently upfront.

  • Are you available for remote work?

Yes. I work remotely with clients nationwide. I'm also available for on-site work in the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metro area when needed.

Engagement Model

  • How do you typically engage with clients?

Engagements start with a discovery call. From there, I scope the work, provide a timeline, and begin on a contract basis — typically month-to-month or project-based.

  • Do you work with third-party staffing firms?

Yes, I work with staffing firms regularly. However, my rate expectations remain the same regardless of the engagement channel.

  • What does a typical project timeline look like?

It varies by scope. A cloud readiness assessment might take 2–4 weeks. A full migration can take 3–12 months. I provide realistic timelines during discovery — no surprises.

  • Do you provide status reports and documentation?

Yes. Clear communication is non-negotiable. I provide regular status updates, risk registers, and project documentation tailored to your reporting cadence.

Experience & Expertise

  • How many years of experience do you have?

I have 12 years of IT experience — I have been in this space for my entire career.

  • What certifications do you hold?

I hold certifications from AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and PMI — including AWS Solutions Architect, AWS AI Practitioner, Azure Fundamentals, PMI-ACP, and CAPM.

  • What industries do you work with?

I work with healthcare, financial services, manufacturing, technology, and retail — primarily mid-market to enterprise organizations with 100+ employees.

  • What cloud platforms do you specialize in?

I specialize in AWS and Azure, with experience in multi-cloud and hybrid environments. I focus on migrations, resilient architecture, and AI integration.

  • Do you write code or is this strictly project management?

My focus is project management, not hands-on coding. I lead teams, manage timelines, mitigate risk, and ensure delivery — I'm the one keeping the trains running on time.
